H.E.Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities discussed attracting foreign private investments to Egypt and innovative technology transfer from Germany to Egypt
H.E. Dr. Assem El-Gazzar, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, welcomed yesterday German delegation representing the most important industry associations; Dr. Klaus Beyer, representing German Society for Trenchless Technology and VDMA – the Europe´s largest association of machinery construction industry; Mr. Frank Hoffmann, representing German Foreign Trade Fairs Association and Expotec International , and Ms. Radmila Labus, representing German private sector- BVMV- German´s largest association of Small-and Midsize Enterprises with 1 million member cross-sector companies. Beside current topics on the economic situation in both countries, major projects including many sectors in line of the sustainability development plan and the axes of Egypt’s Future Vision 2030; Trenchless Technology was one of the topics that has been intensively discussed yesterday. Only five German companies are delivering Trenchless Technology worldwide; an innovative “state-of-art” no-dig technology that combines both; time- and cost saving while protecting environment and saving CO2 footprint. With the minimal excavations and damages to the road surfaces, these innovative technologies are used in water industry, sewage, gas and industrial pipelines, passing through electric cable pipes, as well as fiber-optic cables for communications networks. German delegation got insight in the current and future projects such as the new administrative capital, Haya Karima project and other major infrastructure projects with the aim to understand better the procurement procedures. Mrs. Radmila Labus; BVMW representative for Egypt pointed out: “Only around 1% of German foreign investment finds its way to Africa. The Federal Government is keen to change that. The private sector is a key partner in this context because 99 per cent of all firms in Germany are SMEs and they are the backbone of the German strong economy. However, just a walk-in is not a successful market entry from the German perspective. Before one German SME decide to go internationally, a lot of work must be done before; market research must be carried out and analysed in depth, partners must be identified, and strategies devised. Issues relating to taxes and customs duties, considerations relating to logistics and production chains, security issues, the security of technologies, data protection and legal practices just to name few of them. That´s why we are here today. We act as a bridge, and we help the German SMEs to accelerate this decision-making process and expanding successfully internationally.” The German delegation praised the Egyptian ambitious plans for the infrastructure sector in the coming years especially the President´s initiative to improve the infrastructure in 3000 villages across Egypt. German delegation expressed their willingness to cooperate with the Ministry and serve the goals by creating multiple cooperation and communication platforms and instruments, by welcoming German delegation trips and trade fairs for mutual exchange and partnership between Egyptian and German companies. H.E. Minister welcomed the German initiative to promote Egypt as the future market for German private investments and assured his support in any possible way.
